Horses and Riding

  • by

Riding horses is something that all should experience and for a certain group, it’s life changing.  You are hooked and there is no going back.  Everyone should understand the risks of riding, equine activities are exempt from liability.  With this said, if you love riding, you understand the risks, and you don’t care.

If you are new to riding or experienced and looking for a barn, we can help with the details if you would like, here are a few suggestions for those that are just starting:

Start – go on trail rides, do this many times, go on a hot day, go when it’s cold, see if you love it.

Smells – flies, manure, sweat, hoof, tack, boots, on a hot August day, you will need to love it all.

Next – ride western and english, you will have to figure out which you prefer.

Weekly – just like soccer or hockey, if you want to get good at something, you have to do it weekly.

Home Barn – if you want to ride weekly, find a barn that supports your type of riding.

Stuff – you will need boots, chaps, pants, helmet, crop, and a saddle, some you can rent, some you can’t.

Horse – lessons will end, if you continue, you will need to rent, own part, or own all of a horse.

Ways – trail riding, hunter jump, polo, western pleasure, dressage, most pick one.

Group – find a group that like to ride as you do, it’s easier than going it alone.
